Michael Richards, aged 55, first began experiencing an uncomfortable feeling in his chest and shortness of breath during a skiing holiday in 2017. Later that year, he was diagnosed with angina at Spire Cheshire Hospital.

Angina is a type of chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart, and is a symptom of coronary artery disease. It’s often described as squeezing, pain, or tightness in your chest.

After returning from his ski trip, Michael booked in to see Dr Ruzsics, an expert Consultant Cardiologist at Spire Cheshire Hospital.

Michael said, “When picking a specialist, Dr Ruzsics was top of my list. My mother-in-law had previously been under his care and spoke really highly of him, so I hoped he could provide me with the same quality care.

“During my initial consultation, we did an ECG and he also took my blood pressure. We discussed my history and the symptoms I was experiencing, and I was then booked in for a cardio CT scan (used to take pictures of the heart from different angles) as well as an echogram to investigate further.

“Dr Ruzsics gave me as much time as I needed during the consultation. He explained everything in such a comprehensive and easy to understand way, so I left feeling very well informed and supported.”

After the results of the scan came back, Dr Ruzsics recommended a procedure where they would install two stents into Michael’s arteries.

Dr Ruzsics explains, “Stents are tiny tubes that play a very important role in the treating of heart disease. They help keep the arteries open in order to restore blood flow around the body.”

The surgery allowed Michael to enjoy more ease of blood flow to his heart, as well as enduring less chest pain. Dr Ruzsics also advised certain lifestyle changes to support his heart health.

Michael continues, “I feel great having followed Dr Ruzsics medical advice, including the lifestyle changes. We are still in regular touch. I have periodical blood tests and follow up ECGs to ensure everything’s okay. It’s clear that he likes to keep an eye on his patients after treatment, even years later, making sure the treatment is as long lasting as possible.

“Dr Ruzsics is an extremely companionate and genuinely caring individual and I felt completely safe in his hands. I have never previously met such an intelligent, knowledgeable and caring consultant in my life.

“If anyone is considering treatment for heart disease, my advice is to trust Dr Ruzsics 100%. He will always act in your best interests and if you follow his advice, you are likely to live a longer, happier and healthier life!”
