Mr Mark Halliwell
Consultant Ophthalmologist
MB ChB, FRCOphth
Specialises in
The mainstay of my clinical practice at Spire Cheshire Hospital is general ophthalmology, in particular assessment and treatment of cataracts, glaucoma and retinal conditions, such as macular degeneration and diabetes.
An expanding area is an extension of the NHS 'special interest' that I have developed: oculoplastic, orbital and lacrimal surgery. Oculoplastics is the treatment of eyelid and eyebrow conditions, such as ptosis (droopy eyelids), lid retraction (thyroid orbitopathy) in/out turning of the lids and periocular tumours.
A further facet of this is cosmetic lid surgery. Lacrimal surgery is the treatment of tear over-production or tear drainage disorders in children and adults. Orbital surgery is the evaluation and treatment of conditions affecting the orbital contents around the eye, namely thyroid orbitopathy, inflammation, trauma and tumours.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Mark Halliwell at Spire include:
