Specialises in
Virtual consultations:
I am a Consultant General and Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary (HPB) Surgeon at Manchester Royal Infirmary and Spire Manchester Hospital.
I graduated with a First Class Honours degree in biochemistry and then went on to graduate with Honours in medicine from the University of Manchester in 2000. I completed a period of research and was awarded a Doctor of Medicine for my thesis in 2008. I completed my higher surgical training in the North Western Deanery. I worked in London, Cambridge, Nottingham and Manchester before taking up a consultant position at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds where I practiced advanced pancreatic, gallbladder and bile duct surgery for five years. I returned to Manchester in August 2018 to take up a consultant post at Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
I provide elective and urgent general surgery as well as being part of the regional HPB unit specialising in the investigation and management of liver and pancreatic tumours, pancreatitis and gallbladder diseases. I have a special interest in advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery of pancreas, gallbladder and bile duct, the investigation and management of abdominal pains, open and laparoscopic pancreatic and liver surgery and open and laparoscopic hernia surgery. As part of Manchester Surgical Clinic I offer the full range of therapeutic options for gallstone disease privately, including minimally invasive techniques. I am also part of the complex gallstone and pancreatitis multidisciplinary team (MDT) at Manchester Royal Infirmary and see patients from across North West England.
I have a great interest in day case gallbladder surgery and improving patient satisfaction while in hospital. My other passion is medical education and research; I am a qualified educator and I thoroughly enjoy training the doctors of tomorrow. I am also supervising a PhD student in pancreatic research. I am also involved in change management and quality improvement projects to help shape the NHS of the future.
I practice at Spire Manchester Hospital as well as their clinic in Hale, Cheshire.
