I am an experienced Consultant General, Laparoscopic and Colorectal Surgeon with nearly 20 years’ experience as a Consultant Surgeon, following extensive postgraduate surgical training in the UK.
I have extensive operative and endoscopic experience and, to date, have performed more than 4,500 laparoscopic procedures, including laparoscopic cholecystectomy, hernia repair and colorectal resections, together with more than 2,000 procedures for haemorrhoids, anal fissure and anal fistula. I have also performed more than 9,000 endoscopic procedures.
My specialist interests include laparoscopic (keyhole) gallbladder surgery and the open and laparoscopic repair of all types of abdominal wall hernias, including inguinal, femoral, umbilical, epigastric, Spigelian and incisional hernias.
I provide a comprehensive general and colorectal surgical service for patients with symptoms including abdominal pain, change in bowel habit and rectal bleeding. I have extensive experience in the treatment of common colorectal and anal conditions, including haemorrhoids, anal fissure, anal fistula, pilonidal sinus and rectal prolapse.
For haemorrhoids, I offer a range of treatments tailored to the individual patient, including rubber band ligation, THD/HALO, mucopexy and excisional haemorrhoidectomy.
I also provide Botox treatment and sphincterotomy for anal fissure, surgery for anal fistula, cleft lift surgery for pilonidal sinus and surgery for rectal prolapse.
I treat the full range of colorectal conditions, including colorectal cancer, diverticular disease, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
I am a JAG-accredited endoscopist with extensive experience in diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy. I am also an accredited bowel scope screener. Endoscopy forms a major part of both my NHS and private practice.
Alongside my clinical practice, I hold a number of senior professional roles. I am the MAC General Surgery Lead at Spire Cheshire Hospital, the Colorectal Cancer Lead within my NHS Trust and an active member of the Trust’s Clinical Claims Review Group. I have also received multiple Clinical Excellence Awards in recognition of my contribution to patient care and the NHS.
Teaching has always been an important part of my practice. I regularly teach and supervise surgical trainees at all levels and medical students from the University of Liverpool and the University of Chester.
I maintain a strong interest in evidence-based surgery. I have undertaken a number of clinical projects that have resulted in more than 20 publications in peer-reviewed surgical journals, and I act as a reviewer for several surgical journals. This academic work helps me continually evaluate new evidence and developments in surgery so that I can offer my patients up-to-date and appropriate treatment.
I also undertake medico-legal expert work within general, colorectal and laparoscopic surgery and abdominal trauma, including medical negligence and personal injury cases. This work complements my clinical practice and reinforces my focus on high clinical standards, patient safety, careful decision-making and clear communication.
Above all, I am committed to providing advanced surgical expertise with a personal, compassionate and evidence-based approach. I believe strongly in taking the time to explain the diagnosis and treatment options clearly, enabling each of my patients to make an informed decision about the treatment that is right for them.
