I am a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust in Manchester. Apart from my clinical role, I have been the Clinical Lead for Endoscopy, responsible for ensuring the provision of a safe, efficient and high quality service for the patients across the four hospitals in the trust. I also led the development of the Endoscopy training programme at my trust and as the faculty lead, organised the Endoscopy training courses. I design and implement the training program for all Gastroenterology and surgical trainees across the Trust to ensure we provide a high quality of training to meet the needs of our future consultants.
I am an accredited Bowel Cancer Screening endoscopist and help deliver the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) and Bowel Scope Screening (BoSS) across Manchester.
I lead the complex polypectomy service at the Pennine Acute Hospitals and deliver two therapeutic training lists each week. I perform complex therapeutic procedures including EMR and ESD to remove high risk large polyps.
I am a Clinical Assessor for Joint Advisory Group (JAG) for endoscopy. This role involves visiting endoscopy sites across the country to assess their performance and quality standards and to help improve their endoscopy services.
Before moving to Manchester, I have worked for six years as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust where I had been the clinical Lead for Endoscopy and Gastroenterology. I led several initiatives which resulted in service development at the trust including developing the GI bleed endoscopy oncall system, establishing the Bowel Scope screening at Warrington Hospital and developing a new endoscopy unit at Halton Hospital. I was also the training lead for GI Endoscopy for all the medical and colorectal endoscopist trainees. I developed various local pathways and protocols for management of Gastroenterology conditions which are still in use at Warrington Hospital.
Before taking on my consultant role, I trained for almost 10 years in the Liverpool/Mersey region. During my specialist training I worked in most hospitals in the region and gained extremely valuable experience. I developed sub-specialty interest in conditions affecting the bowel, particularly inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome, reflux, upper and lower gastrointestinal cancers and therapeutic endoscopy.
