Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Mark Falworth at Spire include:
• Shoulder stabilisation
• Elbow replacement
• Frozen shoulder
• Tennis elbow
• Revision shoulder and elbow surgery
• Shoulder impingement
Mr Falworth graduated in medicine from Kings College, London in 1996 before undertaking his basic and higher surgical and orthopaedic training in London on the St. Mary’s and Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) Training Programs. His interest in shoulder and elbow surgery was reinforced by the completion of an AO Trauma and Shoulder Fellowship in Salzburg, Austria as well as spending six months as the Shoulder and Elbow Fellow at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. He spent a further year as a Sports Surgery and Arthroplasty Fellow at Sportsmed.SA in Adelaide, South Australia before returning to the UK in 2006 to take up a Consultant position at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. In 2009 he was also awarded a prestigious British Elbow and Shoulder Society Travelling Fellowship during which he spent time in America learning new techniques in arthroscopic and minimally invasive shoulder surgery.
Mr Falworth’s practice within the NHS and at Spire Bushey Hospital is related solely to the management of conditions affecting the Shoulder and Elbow. At the RNOH the bulk of his work is involved in the management of complex referrals from other UK based orthopaedic surgeons but his interests include all aspects of shoulder and elbow surgery including shoulder impingement, rotator cuff disease, instability, frozen shoulder, sports related shoulder & elbow injuries and shoulder & elbow joint replacement. He maintains close links with the physiotherapy department to both aid treatment and facilitate post-operative rehabilitation.
Mr Falworth has been involved in clinical research resulting in numerous presentations as well as over 30 clinical/scientific publications and book chapters. He is involved in the training of higher surgical trainees at Stanmore as well as other visiting surgeons. He lectures both nationally and internationally on shoulder and elbow surgery and has close links with orthopaedic device companies with whom he is actively involved in the development of computer-aided surgery and its use in shoulder replacements.
