Mr Mark Falworth

Consultant Orthopaedic and Shoulder Surgeon

MB BS, FRCS (Eng), FRCS (Orth)

Specialises in

I graduated in medicine from Kings College, London in 1996 before undertaking my basic and higher surgical and orthopaedic training in London on the St. Mary’s and Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) Training Programs.

My practice within the NHS and at Spire Bushey Hospital is related solely to the management of conditions affecting the Shoulder and Elbow. At the RNOH the bulk of my work is involved in the management of complex referrals from other UK based orthopaedic surgeons, but my interests include all aspects of shoulder and elbow surgery including shoulder impingement, rotator cuff disease, instability, frozen shoulder, sports related shoulder and elbow injuries and joint replacement. I maintain close links with the physiotherapy department to both aid treatment and facilitate post-operative rehabilitation.

My interest in shoulder and elbow surgery was reinforced by the completion of an AO Trauma and Shoulder Fellowship in Salzburg, Austria as well as spending six months as the Shoulder and Elbow Fellow at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. I spent a further year as a Sports Surgery and Arthroplasty Fellow at SportsMed SA in Adelaide, South Australia, before returning to the UK in 2006 to take up a Consultant position at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. In 2009 I was also awarded a prestigious British Elbow and Shoulder Society Travelling Fellowship during which I spent time in America learning new techniques in arthroscopic and minimally invasive shoulder surgery.

I have been involved in clinical research resulting in numerous presentations as well as over 30 clinical/scientific publications and book chapters. I am involved in the training of higher surgical trainees at Stanmore as well as other visiting surgeons. I lecture both nationally and internationally on shoulder and elbow surgery and have close links with orthopaedic device companies with whom I am actively involved in the development of computer-aided surgery and its use in shoulder replacements.
