I am a Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in cataract and glaucoma surgery at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust where I am the current lead for glaucoma since August 2023. I have over 10 years of ophthalmology experience.
My expertise is in complex cataract and glaucoma surgery. I have modernised the glaucoma service at West Hertfordshire, introducing virtual glaucoma clinics and new treatments to the department such as the Preserflo microshunt, glaucoma tube implants and cyclodiode laser.
I perform cataract surgery which aims to reduce spectacle dependence, and also have extensive experience in complex cataract surgery.
My subspeciality interest is in glaucoma, where I have a particular interest in innovative "drop-free glaucoma management”, using the latest laser procedures and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery.
To date I have performed more than 2,000 ophthalmic procedures. My expertise covers a wide range, including laser procedures such as YAG, SLT, PRP, retinopexy, and cyclodiode laser treatments.
I am proficient in complex anterior segment cataract surgery and secondary IOL implantation, with very low complication rates compared to the national average.
For glaucoma, my skills include minimally invasive glaucoma surgery such as iStent/Hydrus, goniosynechialysis, trabeculectomy, minimally invasive bleb surgery with Preserflo microshut, and the implantation of Baerveldt and Ahmed tube devices.
I graduated from the University of Bristol in 2010, and completed my speciality training in the Southwest Peninsula. I then completed my higher speciality training in London, at St. Thomas’ Hospital, Westminster gaining experience in managing advanced glaucoma, using the most up-to-date medical, laser and surgical treatments.
I am a Senior Clinical Lecturer and Speciality lead for Ophthalmology at Brunel University of London, and have helped design the curriculum for Brunel Medical Students.
I was honored with the Peninsula Deanery Bursary for Postgraduate studies in 2020 , and earlier in my career, I received the Bristol University International Recruitment Office Scholarship for high-achieving undergraduate students.Continuing my commitment to learning, I am currently pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of London.
In my NHS practice I train junior colleagues in cataract and glaucoma surgery, and offer higher specialty training in glaucoma for senior trainees from the East of England Deanery. I actively participate in national recruitment of ophthalmology trainees as an interviewer.
