Specialises in
I’m a Bariatric and Metabolic Surgeon in the North West of England. I run the bariatric and metabolic surgery unit at Salford Royal University Teaching Hospital, which provides very high level of care in Greater Manchester and beyond. I have been a Consultant Bariatric Surgeon for last 15 years and have extensive experience of both primary and revisional bariatric surgical procedures with excellent outcome and patient satisfaction. During this period I have performed more than 5,000 various laparoscopic procedures and more than 1,000 bariatric procedures.
The following weight loss and bariatric procedures I perform routinely are sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, gastric banding, gastric balloon, surgery for type 2 Diabetes and revisional bariatric surgery.
Patient satisfaction is very well evidenced by consistently outstanding feedback, testimonials and letters of appreciation. Following completion of my higher surgical training I visited leading centres in America, Australia, Europe and Japan to enhance my skills further, especially minimal invasive surgical procedures.
I have presented my work and research both at national and international level, in addition to its publication in many peer-reviewed journals. I have been an Honorary Senior Lecturer of University of Manchester for the last 5 years and have recently been awarded Honorary Professorship by Manchester Metropolitan University for my excellence in research, education and teaching.
Currently we are in an epidemic of obesity, which has significant effect in our health and wellbeing, as well as cost to the economy of our country. The cause of this epidemic is multifactorial and to tackle this I am leading with other enthusiast colleagues across health professionals, academics, researchers, council executives and voluntary sector volunteers. To this effect we created the Obesity Awareness and Support Information (OASIS-GB). With support from colleagues we have already organised study days and are keen to organise other public events to increase awareness on obesity. Our motto is ‘Active Living and Healthy Eating’.
