Professional profile

I qualified from the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, London, in 1977 and trained in general surgery, around St. Mary's Hospitals in Paddington, before switching to Urology in 1983. I completed my Masters in Surgery at the Institute of Urology, London, and then finished my urological training in Portsmouth before coming to Manchester. I have been a consultant urological surgeon to the Central Manchester Hospitals since 1988.

My sub-specialist interests include in the management of general urological problems, the treatment of complex andrological problems, male-factor infertility, surgical correction of Peyronie's disease, penile prosthetic surgery and urethral reconstruction. In addition to this, I provide a complete range of treatment for male factor infertility, from reconstructive surgery, including vasectomy reversal, to surgical sperm retrieval techniques including epididymal sperm aspiration, testicular sperm extraction and micro-dissection TeSE.

I am the national audit lead for the British Association of Genito-urinary Reconstructive Surgeons (BAGURS), shadow Chairman of the Joint Surgical Colleges Fellowship Exam in Urology (JSCFE) and a past chairman of the Intercollegiate Examination Board in Urology, the body responsible for setting standards of knowledge for Consultant Practice and completion of the FRCS(Urol) exam. I was also, until very recently, Treasurer of the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS), a Trustee of the BAUS charity and a member of its Executive Committee. In the past I have been a member of the committee for the BAUS section of Andrology and Reconstructive Urology and have lectured widely on andrological and reconstructive topics.
