Professional profile

I have been a consultant orthopaedic surgeon for 5 years, specialising in hip and knee replacements, knee reconstruction surgery and sports medicine. I am an expert in managing anterior knee pain and patella instability, cartilage injuries and treating young patients with arthritis. I have experience and interest in patient specific knee replacement surgery, ligament reconstructions and joint preservation surgery.

I specialise in hip and knee replacements, knee reconstruction surgery and sports medicine. I manage and treat young patients troubled with arthritis pain through a variety of joint preservation treatment options. I have a special interest in managing people with anterior knee pain, patella instability and cartilage injuries. I undertake innovative evidence based procedures which include patient specific knee replacement surgery, knee resurfacing procedures, meniscal replacement operations and PRP injections. Other procedures I routinely perform are partial knee replacements, knee revision surgery, ACL and other knee ligament reconstruction procedures, knee arthroscopies and all cartilage restoration procedures.

In both my NHS and private practice, I routinely perform the following number of procedures on average per year: total knee replacements - 120, total hip replacements - 60, partial knee replacements - 30, knee arthroscopy procedures - 180, ACL reconstructions - 40, patella stabilisation procedures - 30, multiligament knee reconstruction - 15 and knee resurfacing and cartilage restoration procedures - 40.

I am the audit and clinical governance lead for trauma and orthopaedics at Whiston Hospital. I have been the enhanced recovery program lead for knee joint replacement surgery in Oxford.

I am a tutor, lecturer and supervisor of trainees and medical students for the University of Liverpool. I am an examiner for medical students at the Liverpool Universty Medical School. I have previously been an examiner for the University of Toronto Medical School in Canada.

I organise and run teaching courses for physiotherapists and GPs in the North West region.
