Mr Alireza Shoakazemi

Consultant Neurosurgeon

MD, FRCS(SN)

Specialises in

  • Brain tumours
  • Pituitary conditions
  • Acoustic neuroma (vestibular schwannoma)
  • Trigeminal neuralgia
  • Degenerative spine disease

I am a UK-trained consultant neurosurgeon with a specialist practice in cranial neurosurgery. My training has taken me through leading neurosurgical centres internationally, including a prestigious fellowship in North America and an advanced skull base fellowship in Manchester. These experiences have enabled me to develop expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of complex neurological conditions while maintaining a strong focus on individualised, patient-centred care.

I currently work as a substantive consultant neurosurgeon at Queen’s Hospital, where I am an active member of both the Skull Base Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) and the Neuro-Oncology MDT. Working closely with specialists from different disciplines allows me to contribute to collaborative treatment planning and ensure patients benefit from the latest approaches in neurosurgical care.

My clinical practice is dedicated to cranial neurosurgery, with particular expertise in the management of brain tumours, skull base conditions, endoscopic pituitary surgery, vestibular schwannoma and trigeminal neuralgia. I treat a wide range of cranial disorders, from minimally invasive endoscopic procedures to more complex skull base operations that require multidisciplinary care.

I also perform Gamma Knife Radiosurgery for patients with brain tumours. This highly targeted treatment uses focused radiation to treat certain brain conditions without the need for traditional surgery.

Alongside my cranial neurosurgical practice, I provide assessment and treatment for patients with degenerative spine conditions, including back pain, disc disease and related spinal disorders. I believe in tailoring treatment plans to each individual, using evidence-based approaches to help patients make informed decisions about their care.

As a committed academic clinician, I have published extensively in peer-reviewed neurosurgical journals. My research focuses on cranial neurosurgery, skull base pathology and tumour management, reflecting my ongoing interest in advancing knowledge and supporting the development of modern neurosurgical techniques.
