“I Went from Constant Pain to Walking Freely Again” Cheshire Woman’s Life Transformed by Fast-Track Surgery at Spire Cheshire Hospital.
30 July 2026
Rosalyn Holmes, 65, from Birchwood, had been living with increasing pain and deformity in her right ankle for over a year. What began as a gradual issue worsened significantly, leaving her unable to walk without severe discomfort and affecting her daily life.
Faced with NHS waiting times of up to 10–12 months, Rosalyn made the decision to seek treatment sooner at Spire Cheshire Hospital.
Following an MRI scan, Rosalyn was diagnosed with a complex ankle condition requiring surgical intervention. She was offered treatment options and opted for surgery, which was carried out just 16 days after diagnosis at Spire Cheshire Hospital.
She underwent a right open tendoachilles Z lengthening and posterior capsular release which was performed in March 2025 by Consultant Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgeon Miss Seema Prasad.
Rosalyn praised the care she received, describing the hospital team as “very efficient, friendly and knowledgeable staff.”
After surgery, Rosalyn’s recovery was smooth, with eight weeks in a plaster cast followed by routine follow-up care.
The outcome has been transformative. Before surgery, she was forced to walk on the side of her foot and lived with constant pain. Today, she is able to walk normally, pain-free, and enjoy everyday life again.
Simple, everyday activities like walking have once again become effortless and enjoyable. She said, “I went from walking on the side of my foot in extreme pain to walking normally with no pain whatsoever - it was a complete life changer. I can now walk without pain, walk without thinking about every step I took.”
Now fully recovered, Rosalyn says the operation has given her back her independence and confidence.
“Miss Prasad gave me my quality of life back. Most people take walking for granted, but when you’ve lived with that level of pain, being able to walk without thinking about every step is incredible.”
Rosalyn’s story highlights how fast access to expert care, combined with specialist treatment, can deliver life-changing outcomes, helping patients regain mobility, independence, and quality of life.
Rosalyn is now encouraging others in a similar position to seek help sooner rather than waiting in pain. She said, “don’t think twice, get it done it will change your life completely.”
