Virtual consultations:
I am a highly experienced Consultant Gastroenterologist and have been practising at Merseyside and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals since 2005. I specialise in luminal gastroenterology and therapeutic endoscopy, including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, and ERCP.
I perform over 500 endoscopic procedures each year and am an accredited colonoscopist for the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. I also undertake advanced therapeutic endoscopy, including the removal of complex polyps, Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) for large polyps that would otherwise require surgery, dilatation of strictures (narrowing) in the gullet or bowel, insertion of feeding tubes (PEG placement), and stent placement for obstructing cancers. In addition to my work at Whiston Hospital, I conduct advanced endoscopy sessions at Aintree University Hospital as a visiting consultant.
My clinical interests encompass the diagnosis and management of a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions such as diarrhoea, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, coeliac disease, indigestion, reflux disease, and anaemia.
I trained at leading centres across Wales, London, and Liverpool, and hold a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) from the University of Liverpool. As the core gastroenterologist within the colorectal cancer multidisciplinary team, I play a central role in bowel cancer prevention and management. My research interests include pharmaco-economics and healthcare value optimisation.
In addition to my clinical work, I serve as Clinical Lead for the Cheshire and Merseyside Endoscopy Network and as the NHSE/I Lead Endoscopy Advisor for the North West of England, supporting the National Endoscopy Transformation Programme. I am also the Deputy Medical Director at Merseyside and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
A dedicated educator, I am an accredited endoscopy trainer and serve as a Royal College of Physicians (London) Regional Advisor for the North West, providing guidance on matters relating to professional standards and training. I remain actively engaged in research, with my work presented at both national and international conferences.
