MSc, MD, FRCS
My professional surgical career spans 32 years, 16 years working as a Consultant Vascular Surgeon after completing 16 years of General and Vascular Surgery training. I am based at Lister Hospital, which is the Vascular Surgery referral centre for Hertfordshire and West Essex with a catchment population of over 1.5 million.
My practice as a vascular consultant is built on my training in vascular surgery in both the UK and Germany, which has helped me consolidate my experience across various areas of vascular surgery. My routine elective work includes lower limb arterial reconstruction, abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) surgery (both endovascular and open), carotid surgery, and endovenous laser and radiofrequency ablation procedures for varicose veins (EVLA and EVRFA).
My experience in peripheral occlusive arterial disease has evolved from performing over 300 infrainguinal reconstructions, including more than 100 femoro-distal bypasses, as well as regular participation in joint vascular and diabetic ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings.
Open Repair of Aortoiliac Aneurysm and Occlusive Disease: My experience covers over 500 elective and emergency abdominal aortic reconstructions, performing over 250 procedures, as the primary surgeon. This includes cases of Redo Aortic Reconstruction for infected grafts and Aorto-Enteric-Fistula.
Endovascular AAA Repair: My experience covers over 150 cases of endovascular AAA repair, elective and emergency, both as the primary Surgeon and in conjunction with Interventional Radiology colleagues. I use the Gore - Excluder, Cook – Zenith, and the Medtronic - Endurant devices, but I am also familiar with the various stent grafts available, as well as their advantages and limitations. I perform the pre-operative planning for my EVAR procedures.
Carotid Surgery: My experience covers over 350 carotid endarterectomies including performing over 100 procedures as the primary Surgeon. I perform this procedure under either general or local anaesthesia, depending on each patient’s clinical status and co-morbidities.
