Professional profile

I have been working as a senior Upper GI surgeon in Birmingham, for the last 10 years, at Birmingham Heartlands and Solihull NHS Trust and as Honorary Consultant at Queen Elizabeth University Hospitals Trust. I have set up and led the well known Heartlands Hospital NHS surgical obesity service which serves approximately 10% of the population of England. I carry out valued clinical research into obesity surgery. This work is presented regularly at national and international meetings and is published regularly in peer review journals.

My main interest is in oesophago-gastric surgery and in particular laparoscopic surgery. Each year I perform over 100 laparoscopic cholecystectomies, 100 laparoscopic anti-reflux procedures and 400 laparoscopic gastric band insertions for obesity.
