I have been a consultant in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Nottingham University Hospitals, UK since 2001.
My specialist interest is in the management of TMJ disorders and I am one of six UK surgeons carrying out significant numbers of TMJ replacement (over 300) and also in facial deformity and facial cosmetic surgery and additionally provide an oral surgery and dental implant service.
I am a NICE expert adviser for TMJ replacement (2009, 2014) and an adviser for NHS England. I have been the lead for the TMJ Special Interest Group of BAOMS (2014-2018), secretary of the British Association of TMJ Surgeons (2006-2018) and Past President of the European Society for TMJ Surgery (2013).
I am the associate editor and expert adviser for TMJ for the British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (2009-), and have over 80 published articles and 20 book chapters mainly on TMJ, including Grays Anatomy. I am considered to be a leading world expert in TMJ management.
Research interests: I referee articles for the British, European and International Journals of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and for Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology. I’m also section editor and specialist adviser in TMJ surgery for the British Journal. I’ve written two book chapters, 28 peer reviewed papers and given 44 international scientific presentations. I’m also an internationally invited key note speaker on TMJ replacement.
