I have been a Consultant Cardiologist for almost 30 years. My medical degree is from Merton College Oxford (open scholarship) and The Royal London Hospital. I undertook my specialist cardiology research at The National Heart Hospital receiving my MD in 1991 for pioneering work in the field of Electrophysiology and Ablation which, at that time, was in its infancy.

My specialist cardiology training was at The Royal Brompton Hospital where I worked with world leaders in the fields of stenting, ablation and devices. My training was completed as a Senior Registrar at The Northern General Hospital in Sheffield where I set up the Electrophysiology and Ablation service. In 1994 I was appointed Consultant Cardiologist at Nottingham City Hospital (now Nottingham University Hospital) with responsibility for setting up all interventional services.

I performed the first angioplasties, ablations, defibrillator and resynchronisation device implantations in Nottingham. Having more than 30 years experience, I have now performed several thousands of each of these procedures. From September 2023 I have decided it is time to stop performing invasive procedures (stenting, ablation and device implantation) but am happy to see patients to discuss the benefits and risks involved. I can then refer them to my specialist colleagues.

I have published papers on ablation, pacing, stenting and angina. I was principal investigator for numerous international research studies including Themis, Pegasus, Fourier, Timi Solid, Tra2P, Improve it, Arise, Oasis 5, Gusto 4, Optimal, Opus Timi 16, Europa Aristotle, DANPACE, Alive and UKPACE.
