Dr Alexandra Croom

Consultant Allergist

MBBS, MRCP, MSc (Medical Immunology)

I became a consultant in 2002 having been the first UK trainee to complete specialist training in Allergy. I am now a consultant at Queens Medical Centre Nottingham having previously been a consultant at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.

I specialise in Allergy with particular interests in the diagnosis and management of food hypersensitivity (including food anaphylaxis, IgE and non-IgE-mediated food allergy and food intolerance), anaphylaxis, urticarial conditions, angioedema, seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and latex allergy.

In addition to my clinical work I am committed to Allergy education for the public as well as doctors and allied health professionals.

I am a member of the Scientific and Advisory Panel for the patient support group the Anaphylaxis Campaign providing specialist advice for their work in educating the public about life threatening allergies. I regularly teach and am on the faculty of the food allergy module of the Allergy MSc hosted by Imperial College, London.

I was previously the Chair of the Specialist Advisory Committee for training specialists in Allergy as well as the Chief Editor for the Allergy KBA, an exam-style assessment sat by all doctors during their Allergy specialist training.

I love cooking, walking the dog and reading. I enjoy cross country skiing and cycling, providing it's not too hilly. I am fighting a losing battle against the garden  but console myself that there is always next year.
