With over 14 years of Consultant experience in the NHS, I am a dedicated General and Colorectal Surgeon passionate about providing expert surgical care tailored to each patient’s individual needs. Based primarily at James Paget University Hospitals NHS Trust, I have extensive experience in both minimally invasive (keyhole) and open surgical techniques, offering patients safe, effective, and evidence-based treatment options.
I completed my Higher Surgical Training in the UK and undertook advanced fellowship training in minimally invasive and robotic colorectal surgery in Chicago, USA. I am also JAG accredited in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, including colonoscopy and gastroscopy, ensuring comprehensive assessment and management of gastrointestinal conditions.
Having performed over 3,000 laparoscopic and open procedures, my specialist areas include hernia repair (inguinal, umbilical, incisional), piles (using advanced techniques such as Anolift), fistulas, fissures, and other anorectal disorders. Experienced in diverticular disease, colorectal cancer and stoma surgery. I am committed to providing personalised care that prioritises patient safety, comfort, and optimal outcomes.
I have over 20 year's experience in open hernia surgery and 15 years with laparoscopic (keyhole) hernia surgery with excellent results.
In addition to my clinical and academic work, I am actively involved in surgical research, clinical trials, and medical education leadership. I am passionate about promoting bowel cancer awareness in the community. Outside of surgery, I enjoy long-distance cycling and hiking across the world, often combining these pursuits with charity fundraising efforts to support bowel cancer research.
In private practice, I am dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care, combining surgical precision with compassionate support. My aim is to offer patients suffering from hernias and anorectal conditions such as piles a clear, informed pathway to recovery through proven, minimally invasive approaches. I offer not just surgical expertise, but also a partnership with patients—listening carefully, explaining clearly, and supporting every step of the way.
