I have been a Consultant General, Laparoscopic and Colorectal Surgeon in the NHS for 14 years. My expertise lies in minimally invasive colorectal surgery and proctology, with extensive experience in treating complex hernias, haemorrhoidal disease, fistula management and colorectal conditions. As a nationally recognised surgical trainer and Silver Scalpel Award finalist, I bring a unique blend of surgical precision, teaching excellence, and compassionate care to my practice.
I specialise in general and colorectal surgery, with a focus on laparoscopic and minimally invasive techniques. My areas of expertise include laparoscopic inguinal, incisional and complex hernia repairs (excluding hiatus hernia), haemorrhoidal procedures including banding, haemorrhoidectomy and anolift, anal fistula surgery including LIFT procedure, stoma management and closures, and the investigation and management of rectal bleeding, constipation and diarrhoea. I also offer gallstone and cholecystectomy services.
To date, I have performed over 3,000 laparoscopic procedures, including complex hernia repairs, colorectal resections, and proctology surgeries. I regularly undertake procedures in both NHS and private settings and maintain high standards of clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction. My surgical practice is evidence-based and outcome-driven, supported by clinical audit and quality improvement.
I have gained extensive experience in general and minimally invasive surgery, Advance Colorectal Surgery, and Proctology, and I intend to utilise these skills for the benefit of the patient and also to become a good trainer and supervisor. My priority as a Surgeon is “patient safety” and I believe in predicting complications and preventing them before it happens.
I have been involved in developing numerous high-quality activities in the NHS over the years, which are based on the STEEEP principles. My aim is to have a Safe, Timely, Effective, Equitable, Efficient and Patient centred approach in every aspect of the organisation. I strongly believe that Clinical effectiveness and outcomes can be improved with Evidence based approach, Robust clinical and hospital processes and systems and Team working. I am very keen to partner with integrated care systems and care partnerships to improve patient care and experience.
I am a highly enthusiastic and hardworking individual. Empathic communication with both patients and colleagues is one of my strong attribute. I strongly believe that my aptitude and motivation will keep me in good stead to achieve further. I motivate, inspire and support my colleagues in a clear and honest manner and have a shared leadership style to achieve my vision.
I hold numerous managerial positions including; Director of Medical Education – Deeply passionate about education for at least a decade and now responsible for the Education of future doctors in the James Paget Hospital. Surgeon Trainer - Nominated for National Silver Scalpel Award for 2023 by Higher Surgical Trainee. Privileged to be a finalist for this National award.
NMS Lead – Fantastic QA feedback from UEA (since 5 years). Secured extra funding for 3.5 Clinical Teaching Fellows for NMS teaching. Helped in up banding of Administrative Staff. Foundation training Program Director – HEE recognised ‘Excellence in Teaching & Supervision’ in 2022.
As a SAS tutor, I introduced ‘SAS Charter’ to the trust. As a SAS doctor myself, when appointed as a SAS tutor, promoted SAS doctors profile to a higher level by listening, recognising different perspectives, empathising to colleagues and becoming a positive role model. In the process, facilitated personalised meetings with CEO, Medical director, etc., on a regular basis. Successfully secured >£75,000 in SAS funding. Organised 15 development courses to SAS doctors in the trust and also participated in the Regional SAS tutor steering group meetings, to improve working lives and opportunities.
My brainchild was to set up ‘Specialty specific CESR champions’ along with SAS Dean in the EOE. I am the CESR Specialty champion for general surgery.
I mentored five doctors with positive outcomes. SAS Doctor Surgical Trainer – Facilitate planned 1:1 theatre sessions to upskill surgery techniques such as Lap hernias, etc. Work Experience Facilitator/Supervisor – Facilitated work experience for local A Level students since 2014. Run a successful program of rotating observership in all departments. Once of the local student who I mentored is a 5th year Medical student currently and wishes to become a ED Consultant in Paget.

Recently I have been hooked to hiking and did the Yorkshire Three Peak Challenge and Machu Pichu trial last year. Since 6 years I have been cycling long distances for Charity (Bowel Cancer UK) which I thoroughly enjoy. I live in a small village south of Norwich with my lovely wife and two boys.
