"The staff at Spire Norwich are all so friendly and committed. It is a real pleasure to work with them."

Specialises in

  • Age-related macular degeneration
  • Cataracts
  • Eyelid cyst surgery
  • Dry eye management

I have been a consultant ophthalmologist since 2014. Specialising in small incision cataract surgery and conditions affecting the cornea and surface of the eye, as well as correction of long and short-sightedness and astigmatism. I offer toric, multifocal and the latest generation of extended depth of focus lens implants, which reduce the need for spectacles after cataract surgery. I am experienced in situations requiring more complex surgical planning, for example cataract surgery after laser refractive surgery. And in corneal surgery, in particular pterygium removal and corneal transplants. I have a special interest in severe dry eye disease and other conditions affecting the surface of the eye.

I perform around 300 cataract operations each year, with a complication rate significantly lower than the national average. I also perform around 20 corneal transplants each year.

I am heavily involved in education and training of ophthalmology in the region. I instruct across all the levels of ophthalmology trainees, from those beginning their training to those nearing completion. This includes teaching at the regional induction week for new trainees, running the sub-specialty cornea training days and assisting with the retina training days. I am the Specialty Tutor for ophthalmology at NNUH, in which I am responsible for overseeing the training of ophthalmology registrars and ensuring they are developing the skills needed for their future careers. I sit on the Regional Training Committee that oversees training in the Eastern region and also chair the quarterly Regional Development Committee meetings.

I am committed to undertaking research and am currently involved in a number of multi-centre trials assessing the effectiveness of various new technologies as well as collaborating with researchers from the University of East Anglia.

Before taking up my consultant appointment in Norwich, I undertook fellowships specialising in cataract surgery and disorders of the cornea and ocular surface in Perth, Australia and at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.
