I'm a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in the management of hip problems. I am the only surgeon in Norfolk to offer the Direct Anterior Approach (DAA) technique for hip replacements, which is a minimally invasive, muscle sparing technique. I perform most aspects of hip surgery from arthroscopic techniques, through to revision hip replacement surgery. The great majority of my patients are able to leave hospital the day after their hip replacement and regain their independence more quickly than with other hip replacement techniques.
During my career I have performed thousands of hip replacements, of which over a thousand have been Direct Anterior Approach technique. I have also performed many hundreds of revision hip and hip arthroscopy procedures between my NHS and private practices. In addition I perform total knee replacements, which I have been doing throughout my career.
Within my NHS practice I lead on the treatment of hip fractures and also the National Joint Registry in respect of joint replacement.
I qualified from University College and Middlesex School of Medicine, London in 1995. After House jobs and Senior House officer positions I started Specialist Orthopaedic training on the South East Thames (Kent, Sussex and Surrey) rotation. I completed specialist training in 2008 and then undertook fellowship training in complex hip surgery at University College Hospital, London.
I am a clinical lecturer for the University of East Anglia having responsibility to teaching medical students and junior doctors in Orthopaedics.
