Dr John Chapman

Consultant Paediatrician

MB ChB (Edin), MRCP, FRCPCH, FHEA

I have always wanted to be a Children's Doctor. I went to the Medical School at the University of Edinburgh in 1986 and graduated in 1991. I began working in paediatrics immediately and did my junior doctor training in Edinburgh and Glasgow. I began working as a Consultant Paediatrician at the James Paget University Hospital in 2000. I deal with all children's problems (General Paediatrics) but I have particular skills in dealing with asthma, eczema and allergies.

I run General Paediatric clinics as well as specialist asthma and allergy clinics for the NHS. I also undertake the reporting of overnight sleep studies to investigate for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea Syndrome.

At the James Paget University Hosptial, I am the Clinical Lead for the Paediatric Department. I am also the JPUH Clinical Lead for Transformation, which means that I am involved in helping to provide services through the Trust more efficiently.

In addition to my clinical work, I am also proud to be an honorary lecturer at the University of East Anglia. I am a founder member and co-chair of the Paediatric Allergy Network of East Anglia (PANEA) which provides education and networking for doctors, nurses and dieticians across our region.

I like to have a busy life!

I enjoy spending my spare time with my wife and three children (and two dogs). This could include camping, Martial arts, watching football or sailing on the Broads.

I have personal/family experience of asthma, allergies, eczema, coeliac disease, tantrums in toddlers and stroppy teenagers.
