Spire Murrayfield Wirral is pleased to announce that we have pledged to improve patient safety as part of the national campaign, Sign up to Safety.
A patient safety campaign, Sign up to Safety is one of a set of national initiatives in England to help the NHS improve the safety of patient care. Collectively and cumulatively these initiatives aim to reduce avoidable harm by 50% and support the ambition to save 6,000 lives.
So far 300 NHS organisations have pledged support to this growing movement and are committed to improve the safety of healthcare through locally-owned and self-directed Safety Improvement Plans. These outline the actions that will be taken in response to five Sign up to Safety pledges.
Matron, Head of Clinical Services, said: “By joining Sign up to Safety, we are promising all patients and staff in Spire Murrayfield Wirral that we are placing the safety of patient care above all else".
Our 5 Sign Up to Safe pledges are;
- Put Safety First
The hospital and staff will maintain an honest and open culture placing safety at the centre of the service we deliver.
Patients care with be based on their induvial needs and provided by competent, knowledgeable staff.
The hospital will ensure that equipment used to provide patient care is fit for purpose and meets regulatory requirements.
Lessons will be learned from incidents and complaints and shared with hospital and medical staff.
Safe - we will ensure all equipment and the environment are fit for purpose and staff are trained a competent.
Effective – we will ensure all staff documentation is of high standards and audited regularly.
Caring – review staffing levels on a daily basis, listen to patient feedback and change practice were appropriate.
Responsive – continual improvement to maintain training requirements and respond effectively to patient feedback.
Well led – we will provide visibility of senior managers to provide support for staff and patients.
We will maintain effective communication throughout the hospital to ensure board to ward reporting.
Our four domains of focus will be:Improved prevention, recognition and management of the deteriorating patient
- Continually Learn
We will ensure all complaints are reviewed weekly and actions completed in a timely manner. Staff will receive feedback monthly via forums and newsletters to ensure lessons are learned.
- Be Honest
We will maintain an open and honest culture by encouraging reporting of incidents and complaints. We will display our progress relating to safety thermometer, infection control rates, patient feedback and safer staffing.
We will forge links with external organisations to improve relations, share good practice and improve patient safety.
- Be Supportive
We will operate in a no blame culture to enable staff to safely report or disclose concerns incidents. We will endeavour to improve the hospital strategy for training. We will implement clinical supervision to support staff.
