In August 2015 David underwent a total left hip replacement procedure at Spire Manchester Hospital. Initially David had some apprehensions about having a hip replacement procedure and how this would impact his life. While talking about his experience David said, “Having always been an active, sporty, person I was dismayed to find that I required a total hip replacement. However, after my first and subsequent meetings with Orthopaedic Consultant Professor Max Fehily at Spire Hospital Manchester, I felt better informed and encouraged that I would be able to eventually return to my former lifestyle and occupational duties.”

"Prof. Fehily described what the procedure would entail and what was required during my convalescence. I elected for an epidural (spinal anaesthetic) which sounds more scary that it was in reality, I would opt for it again. The surgery went very well and I stayed in Spire Manchester Hospital for four nights.

Everybody was so professional, from: Prof. Fehily, and his P.A. Christine, who has been so helpful in my administrative needs; the anaesthetist and surgical team; all the nursing staff, who could not do enough for me during my stay, day or night; the physiotherapy team, who assisted me in getting back onto my feet again; the catering staff, who ensured I had nutritious meals and plenty of fluids; and not least the cleaning staff who ensured my individual room remained a hygienic environment."

"There is a real sense of team effort at Spire."

"Whilst the recovery phase is a personal challenge, I was walking unaided after five weeks and engaging in some light exercises to assist my recovery. At my post-operative check-up and meeting with Prof. Fehily, at week eight, I was given the all clear for a phased return to my normal duties.

Thanks to everyone at Spire Manchester Hospital who has helped me back to improved health.”
