Professional profile

I am a consultant gynaecologist and subspecialist in reproductive medicine and surgery. I am Board and Clinical Director of Reproductive Health Group. I am also the HFEA (Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority) Person Responsible for the Centre for Reproductive Health at Daresbury, Cheshire.

I trained in Italy, London and Manchester before being appointed as consultant in gynaecology and reproductive medicine at St Mary’s Hospital, Manchester, where I worked full time until 2011.

In July 2017 I was appointed as Visiting Professor to both Manchester Metropolitan University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering and the University of Catania’s Masters Programme in Biology and Biotechnology of Reproduction, in recognition of my long term commitment to research and teaching alongside my clinical career.

My clinical and academic interests are in infertility, assisted conception, gynaecological endocrinology, pelvic pain, menstrual disorders and hysteroscopic management of uterine abnormalities. I have expertise in gynaecological ultrasound scan and management of early pregnancy problems including recurrent miscarriage. I have vast experience in advanced laparoscopic surgery for the treatment of endometriosis, adhesions, fibroids, ovarian cysts, tubal surgery and other benign gynaecological conditions, and regularly performs complex laparoscopic procedures such as hysterectomy, myomectomy and reversal of sterilisation as day case procedures.

I am a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and an associate member of many other learned societies including the British Fertility Society (BFS), European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy. I am a preceptor for the BFS special skills modules in Pelvic Ultrasound, Management of the Infertile Couple, Assisted Conception, Embryo Transfer/IUI, Male Fertility and Quality Management of a Fertility Service.

I have published in excess of 95 papers on many aspects of gynaecology, reproductive medicine and surgery, am a member of the editorial board of Reproductive BioMedicine Online and am regularly an invited speaker at national and international conferences.
