Mr Kamran Khan

I am a Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon, who graduated medical school in 2006. I currently hold a Substantive Consultant post at Manchester Royal Infirmary. My qualifications include MBBS, MS, DNB (General Surgery), DNB (Vascular Surgery) and FRCS Ed (Vascular Surgery), reflecting a strong academic foundation. I am an outstanding clinician and surgeon, performing full range of elective and emergency vascular procedures.

I specialise in varicose vein surgery, complex lower limb bypasses, limb salvage in diabetic foot sepsis, carotid artery disease, aortic aneurysm surgery, management of vascular trauma and treatment of bowel ischemia. In my leadership capacity, I am currently working on guidelines for management of Vascular trauma and Mesenteric ischaemia across Greater Manchester and East Cheshire. I am competent in all forms of vascular surgery which include open, endovascular and hybrid approach.

In the last 10 years, I have performed more than 400 Varicose vein procedures, around 200 bypass surgeries (including supra-inguinal, femoral endarterectomy, crural/pedal bypasses, extra anatomic bypasses, upper limb and mesenteric bypasses), more than 150 carotid endarterectomies, close to 100 aortic procedures (including open and endovascular), around 650 arterial exposures/anastomosis, more than 50 Vascular access procedures (including radiocephalic fistula, brachiocephalic fistula, brachiobasilic fistula, AV grafts, peritoneal dialysis catheter insertions), around 200 amputations, involved in around 200 endovascular/hybrid procedures and more than 100 Emergency vascular operations including Vascular Trauma.

I have led national audits for Greater Manchester such as VISTA (Vascular Trauma), contributed to service improvement projects and have several journal publications and paper presentations. I am an experienced surgical trainer and faculty for national and regional surgical courses; I run Mentorship and Clinical Observer’s programme for Overseas graduates and piloting Enhanced Appraisal for SAS/LED doctors across Greater Manchester with a view to regional and national rollout.

I have been appointed as Honorary Senior Lecturer at The University of Manchester for my research involvement. I secured funding from British Heart Foundation for translational research, and am part of a clinical trial looking at development of medical devices.

I am a Life Member of Vascular Society of India and in collaboration with leading Vascular surgeons in that country; my future plan is to set up an exchange program where trainees from UK can benefit from overseas experience in India and vice versa.
