Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Mike Kennedy at Spire include:
ACL Rehabilitation, ACL injury management, Acupuncture, Athletic Screening, Foot & Ankle Rehabilitation, Hip arthroscopy Rehabilitation, Injury Prevention, Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation (IASTM), Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, Performance Enhancement, Post-operative Upper & Lower Limb Orthopaedic Rehabilitation, Shockwave Therapy (ECSWT), Sport Specific Rehabilitation, Sports Injury Management, Sports Physiotherapy, Strength & Conditioning.
I qualified in Physiotherapy from MMU in 2007 where I went on to work both in the NHS and private settings gaining a broad range of experience in all core areas of Physiotherapy. In 2010 I then went on to specialise in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy and then attained an MSc from MMU in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy in 2012. I then combined his Musculoskeletal role with a period of leading a Rheumatology Physiotherapy Team from 2012 to 2014. Following this I completed two specialist year long placements in both Lower Limb and Upper Limb Orthopaedics respectively, whilst alongside this achieving a Pg. Cert. in Lower Limb Trauma and Orthopaedics from Salford University in 2015.
I has a keen interest in ACL injury management and Lower Limb Rehabilitation having focused my MSc dissertation around accelerated rehabilitation protocols following ACL reconstructive surgery. My other interests centre around Sports & Exercise Medicine (SEM) which has lead me to develop an Athletic Screening package at Spire Manchester which is driven towards injury prevention, biomechanical analysis and athlete performance enhancement. I have also expanded my skill set into the field of Strength & Conditioning, devising strength programme’s for both the public and high level athlete’s.
I provide Physiotherapy services to Manchester United Academy teams and I am FA AREA trained. Working with elite athletes; I have developed a high level of expertise in pitch side intervention, sports injury management and sport specific rehabilitation. I also work with The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) providing expert support and Physiotherapy services to its members. Working with elite footballers has enhanced my scope of practice in the management of sports injury and with access to state of the art facilities in my role at Spire Perform i have seen vast improvements in the rehabilitation outcomes following both injury and orthopaedic surgery.
I am currently utilising my role at Spire Manchester to take part in a national UK Full Randomised Controlled Trial of Arthroscopic Surgery for Hip Impingement versus best conventional (FASHION trial: studying hip impingement). I am the named Physiotherapist at the site delivering Personalised Hip Therapy (PHT) programmes in the study. I am committed to continued learning and development, a member of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Sports and Exercise Medicine (ACPSEM) and the Association of Foot and Ankle Physiotherapists (AFAP) and I regularly attend both national and international conferences focusing on advances in Lower Limb Rehabilitation.
At Spire Manchester I lead the successful Shockwave Therapy Service which now provides a solution for chronic injuries such as Plantar Fasciitis and Achilles Tendinopathy. This has led to Spire Manchester being recognised as a specialist Shockwave centre playing host to annual shockwave training events.
I am a recognised Physiotherapist with BUPA and all other major health insurers.
