I am a Consultant Anaesthetist who specialises in pain medicine. This is a sub-specialty that is affiliated to the Royal College of Anaesthetists, but is under its own faculty.
My areas of interest mainly focus around non-surgical techniques to reduce spinal and, more recently, shoulder pain. These techniques involve X-ray or ultrasound-guided interventions for short term 'acute' problems such as sciatica or more radiofrequency denervations of small nerves to reduce transmission of pain for certain longer term 'chronic' conditions.
I have been a consultant since 2007 and my NHS practice is at Stepping Hill Hospital where I am Clinical Lead for the Chronic Pain Service.
