Dr Michael Bowes

Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist

MBChB, MRCPCH, CEPS-P, CDDS

I am a Consultant Paediatric Electrophysiologist since 2017. My areas of expertise include childhood arrhythmia, invasive electrophysiology, implantable devices, channelopathies and inherited cardiac conditions.

An initial consultation with me includes a 12-lead ECG and echocardiogram, all in a single visit, ensuring a comprehensive and convenient experience.

I work closely with adult colleagues in both Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital and Manchester Heart Centre to help provide a joined-up, whole family service for those impacted by inherited cardiac conditions such as long QT syndrome, Brugada syndrome and CPVT. I also diagnoses and cares for neonatal, infant and childhood congenital heart disease.

I was trained in general paediatrics in the North West before specialising in paediatric cardiology at Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool. Subsequently, I acquired further specialist training in Electrophysiology and inherited Cardiac conditions at Liverpool Heart and Chest hospital and the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne.

As a senior member of the Paediatric Cardiology service in the North West I am involved in care of children from across the region with heart conditions. I work across two major paediatric hospitals in Liverpool and Manchester, as well as regular clinics in Wales.

As the only paediatric Electrophysiologist in the region, I am responsible for all Electrophysiology studies/Ablations in the young, as well as the implant of devices such as loop recorders, pacemakers and implantible defibrillators. As lead for inherited cardiac conditions I am regularly requested for help investigating, diagnosing, and managing life threatening disease.
