"It is a privilege to work as part of a team at Spire delivering a high class, bespoke and personalised service to patients."
Specialises in
I am an experienced consultant in Ophthalmology with a special interest in complex cataract surgery and glaucoma. I offer a full range of procedures for glaucoma treatment ranging from traditional surgical options such as trabeculectomy and tube surgery to minimally invasive surgical techniques and laser surgery. Minimally invasive glaucoma surgery allows surgical options for disease control earlier than with existing surgery due to the superior safety profile of such procedures. I also run a general ophthalmology service covering minor operations and all aspects of emergency care.
I have completed over 40,000 ophthalmic procedures including over 10,000 cataract operations and have a very low complication rate.
After qualifying from The University of Manchester in 1993, I underwent extensive training in centres of excellence at Moorfields Eye Hospital, St Thomas’ and Addenbrooke's (Cambridge).
I am determined to help patients understand their own health so they can be well informed when making important health decisions. Patients appreciate the warmth, professional integrity, and open communication that define my medical practice and this was recognised as a nomination for “Hospital Hero” at the Barts Health NHS Trust where I previously held a consultant post.
I am currently a consultant in post at East Surrey Hospital. I was previously Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and Lead Clinician for Glaucoma at Whipps Cross University hospital and provided lectures to other physicians in formal Ophthalmology courses. I have been appointed as an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmology, London and my research has won prizes both nationally and internationally.
My academic achievements have won prizes both nationally and internationally and I now provide lectures to other clinicians and am also an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. I have always been interested in teaching. I lecture physicians in formal Ophthalmology courses, both nationally and internationally and train medical students and other doctors.
