Mr Boyd Goldie

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, specialising in the upper limb

MBBS, BSc (Hons), DHMSA, FRCS (Eng)

"I have worked at Spire London East Hospital since 1993. It has always maintained the highest of standards of care."

Specialises in

My orthopaedic training was at St Mary's Hospital, The Royal London Hospital and the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston USA. From 1993 until 2015, I was a Consultant at Whipps Cross University Hospital.

I have been on the national faculty for the British Society for Surgery of the Hand instructional courses, and the AO Hand Fracture fixation courses. I am also an invited lecturer on the European Acumed Upper Limb Fracture Fixation course. I continue to innovate and lecture on the use of 3D printers in Orthopaedics.

My area of expertise is in problems of the upper limb, namley the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand. In the shoulder I treat conditions such as frozen shoulder, impingement and torn rotator cuff. Around the elbow, I treat tennis and golfer's elbow, and ulnar nerve compression. At the wrist I excise ganglions, perform percutaneous and open scaphoid fracture fixation and carpal tunnel decompressions. In the hand I perform trigger finger release, de Quervains decompression, and fix fractures of the hand bones.

I have a particular interest in Dupuytren's disease (Dupuytren's contracture), and am one of the few surgeons in London regularly performing needle release, known as Needle Aponevrotomy (NA), Needle Aponeurotomy or Percutaneous Needle Fasciotomy (PNF).

In 2015 I performed 190 operations. These included: 3 Clavicle fractures; 3 Humeral fractures; 5 forearm fractures; 6 wrist fractures; 8 hand fractures; 4 AC joint excisions; 13 Rotator cuff repairs; 9 Subacromial decompressions; 3 Tennis elbow releases; 7 Ulnar nerve decompressions; 51 Carpal tunnel decompressions; 3 de Quervains decompressions; 7 Ganglion excisions; 13 Trigger finger and thumb releases; 11 Dupuytren’s corrections.

I am a member of the Editorial Board of the European Journal of Hand Surgery. I regularly review papers submitted for publication. I have also reviewed papers for the Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons. I contribute to the European Journal of Hand Surgery as an editorial reviewer.
