Professional profile

I am currently practising as a substantive NHS Consultant Rheumatologist at North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust since February 2018.

I completed my medical degree in June 2004 at Guy's, King's and St Thomas' Medical School. In June 2001 I completed a BSc in immunology which set the foundation for my path in to the world of rheumatology. I entered specialty training in rheumatology and general internal medicine in 2012. During my training I experienced a wide variety of rheumatological problems, including the common conditions and more complex cases. My experience in acute and general medicine has helped me to develop into a well-rounded rheumatologist, where I feel I can really provide holistic care to my patients.

My current practice involves looking after patients with all aspects of general heumatology. My specialty interest is in early inflammatory arthritis and also in the management of patients with connective tissue diseases, such as lupus or systemic sclerosis. Other areas that I commonly manage include back pain, neck pain, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis and gout. I see on average 50-60 patients per week in the rheumatology clinic and also on the wards. I regularly perform joint injections in the knee, shoulder, wrist and carpal tunnel, averaging about 5-10 injections per week. I am also providing platelet-rich plasma joint injections, which is establishing itself as a highly successful form of medical technology for the treatment of joint arthritis.

I also conduct research in my current NHS Practise, and I am the research lead for my department. I am a Principle Investigator for a clinical trial involved in looking at the benefit of two different medications in the management of Ankylosing Spondylitis (SURPASS study). My previous research during my BSc in immunology looked at the role of heat shock proteins as possible target antigens in the development of rheumatoid arthritis.

An important priority for me is to maintain a high professional standard. I regularly keep myself up to date with the latest evidence and research in rheumatology so that I can provide my patients with the best possible care. I regularly attend conferences and read the latest journals which allows me to do this.

Another important aspect to my care is that I provide a consultation where I look to make the patient feel as comfortable as possible and allow for a discussion regarding any investigation and treatment. The patient's feelings and views are just as important as the doctors. I very much enjoy meeting and interacting with new people, and for me this helps me to be a better consultant.

I am the Clinical Governance lead for the rheumatology department at North Middlesex Hospital.
