Breast reduction, uplift and tummy tuck: Angela’s story

Angela was about to turn 50 and, with the wedding of her son fast approaching, she knew this was the time she wanted to start looking into cosmetic surgery. She explains, “I had thought about it for a while, and over the years had always put the family first, but now felt it was time to do something for me.”

Enjoying keeping fit by walking and regularly going to the gym, Angela had found having large breasts was sometimes a challenge. She says, “Not only was it difficult to find a sports bra with the right support for exercising, I was unable to wear pretty underwear as they just didn’t go up to my size, 34FF.”

In addition to considering a breast reduction, Angela looked into having a tummy tuck. She says, “I had that little bit of tummy that was hard to shift at the gym and really wanted both procedures done in one go.”

Angela began her research looking for surgery abroad, but was put off by some of the information and stories she read and heard, and decided to choose a reputable hospital locally in Edinburgh.

She visited Spire Murrayfield Hospital in Edinburgh and saw consultant plastic surgeon Mr Ken Stewart. After consultation and, due to a number of factors including Angela being fit and healthy, Mr Stewart agreed she would be a good candidate to have a breast reduction, lift and tummy tuck under one anaesthetic.

After her procedures were complete, Angela benefited from the aftercare at Spire Murrayfield Hospital. She explains, “The care was second to none, and the hospital could not do enough for me.”

Throughout recovery, Angela was looking forward to being able to go shopping to dress her new figure. She says, “My recovery went really well, and although I have always been confident, this has just made me even more so.”

To anyone who is considering similar surgery, Angela’s words of advice are: "Give yourself something back. Mothers especially tend to always put the family first and themselves at the bottom of the pile. I deserved to do something nice for me!”
