Mr Chris Johnston

I am a consultant transplant and general surgeon practicing at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and Shawfair Park Hospital. My primary clinical interests are liver  transplantation, management of complex gallstone disease, hernia surgery and advanced endoscopy (ERCP).

I am currently the clinical lead for the Edinburgh National Organ Retrieval Service, chair of the UK NORS Clinical Leads’ Forum, Lead Educational Supervisor for transplant surgery training in Edinburgh and Programme Lead for the Edinburgh Transplant Surgery Fellowship.

Following undergraduate studies at Imperial College London, I moved to Edinburgh for specialty training in general surgery in 2009. I was subsequently appointed to a Wellcome-funded (ECAT) PhD Fellowship in 2012, re-entered higher surgical training as a clinical lecturer in 2015 and was subsequently appointed as a consultant transplant and general surgeon in 2020.
