I graduated in 1996 with honours from the University of Glasgow Medical School where I received the prestigious Brunton Memorial Prize for the most distinguished graduate of the year. I was also awarded the Hall Prize for paediatrics and the Cullen Medal for surgery.
I completed advanced specialty training in ear, nose and throat, head and neck surgery in Dundee and Edinburgh and I undertook a one year fellowship in paediatric otolaryngology at Yorkhill Children's Hospital, Glasgow. I was appointed to the University Department of Otolaryngology in Edinburgh as a Consultant ENT Surgeon with a specialist interest in paediatric otolaryngology in 2007.
I enjoy all aspects of my current Paediatric ENT practice at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh where I am currently lead clinician for paediatric ENT services; making a significant contribution to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training as well as acting as an examiner in the Final MB examinations at the University of Edinburgh School of Medicine. I serve as a council member for the British Association for Paediatric Otolaryngology promoting excellence in the field and I'm a member of the teaching faculty of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
I am committed to providing the very best care to children with ear, nose and throat problems with a family-centred approach.
I have expertise in all aspects of Paediatric ENT including glue ear and childhood hearing loss, wax management, middle ear infections, adenoid and tonsil problems, snoring and sleep apnoea, allergy and blocked runny noses, neck lumps, nose bleeds, voice and airway disorders, tongue tie, saliva control as well as ear, nose and throat trauma and foreign bodies.
