I am an ophthalmic surgeon, based in Edinburgh, with more than 20 years experience. I was appointed as a consultant based in the Edinburgh Eye Pavilion in 1999 and have practised at Spire Shawfair since it opened.
I perform small incision phacoemulsification cataract surgery using topical (no injections) anaesthesia for more than 95% of all cases. My results taken from my last appraisal are: Visual outcomes; 100% (64/64) of patients saw better than 6/12 @ 6/52 postop (benchmarking figure 91% 1) overall data includes all returned audit forms which represents 49% (64/131) of all operations performed, Complications; 0.8% (1/131) posterior capsular tear (benchmarking figure 0.9%1).
I have taught extensively, I co-author Ophthalmology Pocket Tutor, the third edition of which has just been published.
