I have been a Consultant ENT, Head and Neck and Thyroid Surgeon at Addenbrooke's Hospital for 21 years. I specialise in general adult and paediatric ENT with specific interests in thyroid and parathyroid surgery, benign and cancerous conditions of the throat and nose, salivary gland surgery and voice and swallowing conditions.
I set up and run the voice clinic and neck lump clinic at Addenbrooke's Hospital and have access to same day neck and thyroid ultrasounds at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital.
I have performed over 1,000 thyroidectomies and over 1,000 parathyroidectomies making me a very high volume surgeon. I also perform approximately 20 parotidectomies a year and undertake all of these procedures in both adults and children. I regularly perform microlaryngoscopies for voice box and throat conditions for both diagnosis and treatment.
I have been a core member of the head and neck cancer and thyroid cancer multidisciplinary teams at Addenbrooke's Hospital since starting as a Consultant.
I am currently the principal investigator at Cambridge University Hospital for a national multi-centre trial looking at hemi versus total thyroidectomy for thyroid cancer (HoT trial). I am also the surgical principle investigator in a multicentre trial looking at radiofrequency ablation for thyroid nodules.
I studied medicine at Birmingham University and undertook my specialist training at the three major teaching hospitals in Liverpool resulting in a comprehensive training in otology, rhinology with endoscopic sinus surgery and head and neck surgery. My time spent at Alder Hey Children's Hospital also allows me to offer a comprehensive paediatric ENT service. I undertook further specialist training in Head and Neck Surgery as a Fellow for one year at The Royal Brisbane Hospital in Australia prior to being appointed to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.
