Mr Jayasimha Abbaraju

I am a Consultant Urological Surgeon based at Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford. With over two decades of medical experience and a strong commitment to clinical excellence, I specialise in the diagnosis and management of complex urological conditions, with particular interest in cancer diagnostics, bladder and testicular cancers. My work combines advanced surgical expertise, multidisciplinary collaboration, academic research, and a dedication to medical education.

After completing medical school in India, I moved to the United Kingdom to pursue higher surgical training and have since built a successful career within the NHS. My postgraduate qualifications, include Master’s degree in Urology from University College London, and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Urology. I am fully registered with the UK General Medical Council with a licence to practise and I am an active member of leading professional organisations including the British Association of Urological Surgeons and the European Association of Urology.

In my role as a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Darent Valley Hospital, I provide a comprehensive elective and emergency urological care. My clinical practice covers a broad spectrum of conditions, ranging from benign urological disorders to complex uro-oncological cases. I run both general and specialist outpatient clinics and perform a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including endoscopic surgery, prostate biopsies, and minimally invasive interventions for stone disease and other urological conditions.

I play a key role in the hospital’s multidisciplinary cancer services, helping ensure that clinical decisions are guided by the latest evidence and best practice standards. I also chair the prostate MRI review and MDM streamlining meetings, bringing together radiologists, pathologists, oncologists, specialist nurses, and surgeons to review complex cases and develop individualised treatment plans for patients.

I oversee clinical governance activities, supervises quality improvement projects, and supports departmental and national audits to enhance patient safety and delivery of care.

Education and mentorship form a central part of my professional work. I am actively involved in teaching medical students, junior doctors and specialist nurses. I also contribute to postgraduate education as a lecturer on the MCh (Urology) programme at Canterbury Christ Church University and also participate in the training of medical students from the region. In addition, I serve as faculty for specialist training courses in flexible cystoscopy and ureteroscopy.

I maintain an active academic profile and contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications in international journals. My research interests include prostate cancer, minimally invasive urological surgery, and outcomes of advanced urological treatments. I have presented at national and international conferences, sharing insights from both clinical research and quality improvement initiatives.
