Refer by letter or via SCI Gateway

A GP referral letter is usually required before any patient can be seen by a consultant at Spire Murrayfield Hospital. Although always appreciated, GP referrals are not necessary for weight loss surgery, infertility treatment, varicose veins and erectile dysfunction.

Referrals can be ‘Dear Dr’ or named. For Dear Dr referrals we will determine the most appropriate consultant with the next available appointment. To refer to a specific consultant, please refer to our consultant directory or for more information on each consultant view Spire Murrayfield hospital's consultant profiles.

GP Hotline

You can refer a patient via SCI Gateway, by calling our dedicated GP Hotline:

Call 0131 316 2552 / Fax 0131 316 2561

SCI Gateway

The majority of our referrals are received via SCI Gateway. Spire Murrayfield Hospital is located under the NHS Lothian drop down menu. Once we receive the SCI Gateway or referral letter we will contact your patient via telephone within one working day to arrange a suitable appointment. If your patient has medical insurance we will ask for their insurance policy details and ask them to notify their insurers. Patients who are self-funding can also be referred using SCI Gateway.

Insured Patients

Scheme/policy details are required at the time of booking an out-patient appointment so that we can obtain pre-authorisation.

Self-funding Patients

We can provide a tailored fixed price with no hidden extras on a range of diagnostic tests, treatments and surgical procedures. For information call us on 0131 316 2507.

Emergency admissions

Call 0131 334 0363 for Murrayfield or 0131 654 5600 for Shawfair Park and ask for the nurse in charge. Please note, as a day-case facility, Spire Shawfair Park Hospital has an estimated closing time of 10pm; if required, patients will be re-admitted to Spire Murrayfield Hospital. We will aim to call you back within 20 minutes to update you on the progress of the admission. Neither of these hospitals have accident and emergency facilities.

Medical admissions

At Spire Murrayfield Hospital, we can offer medical admissions for long or short stays under the care of a consultant. For more information on this service contact 0131 316 2507.

Our GP liaison team

The main aim of our GP Liaison team is to ensure that GPs have seamless access to the hospital and are aware of the services that the hospital offers. Much of the team's time is spent co-coordinating educational events and providing updates on new consultants, services and treatments.

Our 2018 Consultant Directory is now available for GPs and practice staff, if you would like a copy of the brochure please contact gpscotland@spirehealthcare.com or call 0131 316 2504.
