Professional profile

I am a specialist in gastroenterology, hepatology and endoscopy at Brighton and Sussex University Hospital Trust where I was appointed as an NHS consultant in 2010.

I completed my gastroenterology training in London at Kings College Hospital and St Thomas’ Hospital. I spent 6 years working at the Liver Unit at Kings College hospital looking after patients with liver disease before and after liver transplantation. I completed my research in survival characteristics of patients with end stage liver disease. The results of my research were published and presented at national and international meetings.

I have a keen interest in advanced endoscopy and perform all aspects of both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. I am the clinical lead for endoscopy at Brighton and Sussex University Trust and set up the hepatobiliary endoscopic ultrasound service, spyglass cholangioscopy and introduced the enhanced sedation/anaesthetic endoscopy list in the trust. Recently, I have transformed the colorectal referral pathway enabling rapid access and diagnosis of patients with lower gastrointestinal symptoms.

I am also involved in teaching and management. I am the director of the annual South East endoscopy symposium and teach and train doctors in all aspects of endoscopy. I have taught these skills internationally and within the UK.
