Virtual consultations:
I have been an orthopaedic consultant at Spire Wellesley Hospital and Southend University Hospital since 1998 and this has provided me with a wealth of experience of hip and knee replacements together with the management of sports injuries. I am a Football Association recognised consultant and in addition to the above, I also have an interest in hip arthroscopy and joint preservation with regard to hips.
I specialise in orthopaedic surgery with a specific interest in sports injuries together with hip and knee replacement surgery. I also have a wealth of experience of treating failed joint replacements of the hip and the knee with revision procedures using modern techniques. I perform hip arthroscopy for sports injury to the hip and also for early arthritic changes.
I have been carrying out hip and knee replacements for the last 20 years and have performed well over 1,000 hip and knee replacements. I regularly perform more than 100 hip and knee replacements per year, details of which can be found on the National Joint Registry website. It is very satisfying to see the excellent pain relief and restoration of function that these procedures give. As Football Association recognised, I treat professional sportsmen and use the very latest techniques available.
I trained at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, London. I was awarded the Sir Hubert Seddon gold medal for research. I undertook a year’s research into cartilage regeneration at the Institute of Orthopaedics, RNOH Stanmore and Queen Mary’s University, London. This year gave me experience of some developing techniques for treating joint problems in younger patients. My training also involved being the Royal College of Surgeons’ lower limb Research Fellow in Detroit, USA. I have been fortunate enough to operate with some of the world’s finest orthopaedic surgeons. Currently I am interested in rapid recovery programmes that aim to improve post-operative pain relief and provide more rapid return of function following joint replacement.
I am the Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) at the Spire Wellesley Hospital. I enjoy this role as it gives me insight into surgery and medicine outside of orthopaedic practice. I am a UK member of the Acquilant Research and Development Board for the development of new ideas relating to joint replacement. I lecture orthopaedic trainees on infection control in joint replacement.
I take part in Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching and lecture orthopaedic trainees on a regular basis.
I welcome appropriate patients wishing to refer and pay for treatment themselves without the need for a GP's letter of referral. I am available for appointments at the Spire Wellesley Hospital on Monday and Tuesday mornings, Thursday evening and Saturday morning.
Below is feedback from some of my patients at Spire Wellesley Hospital:
