Saturday 24 June 2017 GP Seminar
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Philip Mitchell at Spire include:
Joint replacement of the lower limb and revision hip and knee replacement.
Mr Mitchell’s NHS appointment is at St George's Hospital, Tooting and his specialist areas of interest are in Joint Replacement of the lower limb and Revision Hip and Knee Replacement.
Mr Mitchell was educated at Epsom College and St Mary's Hospital, Paddington. His Registrar training took place on the South West Thames (St George's) Training Scheme. During the five years of training prior to his Fellowship Mr Mitchell set up and ran what is now the largest database world-wide of revision hip procedures performed using an extensively Hydroxyapatite coated implant. This work has led to several international presentations, including several in North America and one in New Zealand.
Mr Mitchell then spent a year on Fellowship in Vancouver. This is one of the premier Joint Reconstruction Fellowships in the world. In Vancouver Mr Mitchell wrote several Instructional Course Lectures for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, was involved in the setting up of the Academy on-line textbook and wrote original papers in several areas of Revision Surgery.
Mr Mitchell offers a tertiary referral service for complex hip and knee procedures, particularly management of the infected hip and knee replacement, management of significant bone loss in revision surgery and periprosthetic fractures.
