I am a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon in a busy district general hospital, specialising in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery for diseases of the bowel including bowel cancer and inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn’s and Colitis. I am an advanced endoscopy practitioner, fully accredited by JAG (Joint Advisory Group on GI Endoscopy) and carry out endoscopic removal of large polyps of the bowel and early cancers of the rectum. My special interests also include screening for bowel cancer and treatment for benign anorectal conditions including haemorrhoids, anal fistula and fissure. I also offer surgery for a wide range of general surgical problems including various types of hernia (groin/umbilical/incisional).
I am a member of the NICE FIT trial steering committee, and am the Principal Investigator at Croydon Hospital for this multi-centre, NIHR approved trial, which is looking at the feasibility of less invasive tests for bowel cancers. I am a member of the Sepsis Taskforce, Trauma Care delivery group and R&D committee at Croydon University Hospital. I also lead the peer review for lower GI cancers at CUH.
I am the surgical tutor to the Royal College of Surgeons at Croydon University Hospital PGMC. I am in charge of surgical training at all levels and also responsible for supporting faculty and educational supervisors in surgical specialties and ensuring educational governance.
General Surgery: surgical treatment of various types of hernia including groin(inguinal/femoral), umbilical and incisional; appendicitis; bowel obstruction and perforation; skin lesions-lipoma and sebaceous cysts.
Colorectal surgery: colonoscopy; upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (OGD); endoscopic removal of polyps; transanal excision of early rectal cancers and large polyps (TEMS/TAMIS); bowel cancer screening; colon and rectal cancer; laparoscopic(key-hole)surgery for bowel cancer and inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn’s and colitis; diverticular disease; treatment for haemorrhoids (including HALO/THD/RAFAELO), anal fistula and fissure; abdominal pain; bowel incontinence; diarrhoea; constipation; digestive disorders; anal pain; rectal prolapse; rectal bleeding; pilonidal sinus.
