‘Never Accept A Lift From Strangers’ by Jonathan Staiano gives advice on how to choose your plastic surgeon as well as issuing warnings about the ones to avoid!
“It might sound obvious but the first thing I say is ‘don’t go abroad’,” he said.
“There isn’t anywhere in the world with higher standards of excellence than Great Britain so there really isn’t any need to go anywhere else.
“Also, ‘most expensive’ doesn’t mean ‘best’ and ‘cheapest’ certainly doesn’t mean ‘best value’.”
Mr Staiano, who holds regular clinics at Spire Parkway Hospital in Solihull, added: “There are many excellent surgeons all over the world and no country can claim to have the best surgical training, but the UK has an enviable reputation.”
The book highlights some high-profile cosmetic surgery scandals that have occurred in the past few years as well as some of the non-surgical errors made by people with “no formal specialist training at all”.
He said: “Despite the complexity of what a surgeon does, the cosmetic surgery industry is largely unregulated and the onus is on the patient to choose their surgeon wisely.
“I hope my book will clear up misconceptions and help people understand what the letters after a surgeon’s name actually stand for. There are many outstanding surgeons who can perform excellent work combined with the correct aftercare – all I am doing is helping people find them.”
Mr Staiano is a fully UK trained consultant plastic surgeon specialising in cosmetic breast surgery and body contouring.
He has the highest qualifications possible for a plastic surgeon in the UK, FRCS (Plast), and is on the GMC specialist register for Plastic Surgery.
He is also a full member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS) and the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS).
