Spire CEO Charity Cycle ride comes to Parkway

25 June 2014

Rob Roger, who heads up the one of the UK’s largest private healthcare providers, is taking part in an epic 403 miles charity ride in six days (at weekends) to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care and Walking with the Wounded.

His route takes in several Spire Healthcare hospitals along the way which started in the South East of England and is due to finish in Scotland.

The latest regional leg of the charity bike ride is 95 miles long and saw Rob cycle from St George’s Park to Sutton Coldfield and Solihull before heading on to Worcester. He started the bike ride on 7 June in Southend and finished on 28 June in Edinburgh. Rob will cycle with the British and Irish Lions on the final two legs of the route, from Bristol to Cardiff and Peebles to Edinburgh.

Rob Roger said: "This leg of the cycle ride is the longest and represents almost a quarter of the total route. I am working at Spire during the week so it is a gruelling schedule without a break. I have done a lot of training in the lead up to the start of the cycle ride but it is not without its challenges both mentally and physically.

"Thanks to the tremendous support from colleagues along the routes I am hugely motivated to succeed. They have played a large part in pushing me on to finish and raise money for my chosen charities which are at the forefront of my mind when I am in the saddle."

Paula Naylor, Hospital Director at Spire Parkway Hospital in Solihull, said:

"We were keen to welcome Rob and show our support as he cycled to the hospital on his route via Solihull.

"The bike ride is in aid of two very good causes so we made sure he got a big send off as we waved him on to his next leg of this route. We wish him all the luck in getting over the finish line at the end of the month."

Rob plans to finish his bike ride on 28 June when he completes the charity cycle route at Murrayfield, Edinburgh. To support Rob’s charities, go to Virgin Money Giving.
