How to make a referral

We’re committed to supporting local healthcare professionals and aim to make the referral process as quick and easy as possible. Our Primary Care and Business Development teams will work closely with you, to help provide the highest level of service – making a positive difference to our patients’ lives through outstanding personalised care is at the heart of everything we do.

Online referrals

Spire Connect

Spire Connect is the quickest way to make a referral. The patient e-referral portal offers a fast, easy and fully secure way for GPs, practice staff and healthcare professionals to refer patients to Spire hospitals. As well as making secure online referrals for a broad range of treatments and tests and scans, you can also:

  • Receive email confirmations – once your referral is submitted and processed
  • Access sent referral information – at any time
  • Find direct up to date contact information
  • Save time and paper – it’s environmentally friendly

Private insured patients

A referral letter is generally required from you before any insured patient can be seen by a consultant. Patients can call our bookings team on 0121 704 5527 to arrange a convenient appointment.

  1. Use Spire Connect to refer your patient. All patients using private insurance will need a referral letter
  2. Our team will contact your patient to discuss consultants, times and dates
  3. Your patient needs to contact their insurer to make sure they are covered for their appointment to see their chosen consultant
  4. We’ll update you on your patients’ progress

Self-funding patients

Self-funding patients are able to be seen by a consultant without a GP referral, although a letter is often preferred.

  1. Use Spire Connect to upload the referral letter. Call 0121 704 5549 if you have any queries
  2. Our team will contact your patient to discuss consultants, dates, times and pricing
  3. We’ll update you on your patients’ progress

NHS referrals

Referrals for NHS patients can be sent through the online e-referral service (formerly choose and book) by visiting www.ebs.ncrs.nhs.uk. This is the best practice for us to receive NHS referrals, as patients will receive appointments in a timely manner and is an efficient system.

Referrals can also be sent by emailing spire.parkway@nhs.net. When sending an email, please make sure to state that the referral is NHS and provide a recent relevant medical history.
