I qualified from the Royal Free Hospital, University of London and trained in ENT and Head and Neck and Plastic Surgery at Guys Hospital and the Royal Marsden. Since 1992, I was a Consultant ENT, Head and Neck and Thyroid surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, University of Birmingham NHS Trust, until 2017. I spent one year at the Royal Marsden (2016 - 2017) as a Consultant Thyroid Surgeon. I also work at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

I specialise in ENT, head and neck, thyroid and parathyroid surgery (and can offer minimally invasive techniques)thyroid disease including benign thyroid disease and thyroid cancer. I have a large thyroid practice and contribute to an active thyroid research programme.

I've carried out approximately 5,000 head and neck treatments and 3,000 thyroidectomies.

In addition to my clinical work, I am the current chairman of the Semon Committee at the University of London.

I have published on all aspects of Head and Neck surgery; organised the Birmingham Head and Neck course for ten years, and I am now the Chief Editor of Stell and Maran. I edited the Plastic Surgery section of the recently published Scott-Brown and am Chief Editor. I have a large UK thyroid clinical and research practice, and have helped orchestrate or supervise over 40 Higher Degrees.

Together with Mr Adrian Drake-Lee, the late Roy Castle and Peter Scudamore, I helped establish the ‘Get-A-Head’ Charitable Trust which to date has raised over eight million pounds and has helped fund the purchase of vital equipment, research and education.
