Virtual consultations:
I obtained my medical degree from Alexandria University in Egypt in 1986. My basic surgical training took me to Redditch, Coventry, Oxford and Falkirk leading up to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1993.
My training in orthopaedic surgery was in the mid-Trent region, leading to the Fellowship of the intercollegiate board of the Royal Colleges in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in 1999.
I developed my interest in arthroscopic surgery of the knee in Nottingham and Derby between 1995 and 1997. I progressed my interest in shoulder and elbow surgery at two of the leading shoulder and elbow units in the United Kingdom, by spending a year as a Shoulder Surgery Fellow to Mr S.A. Copeland at the Reading Shoulder Unit and six months with Professor W.A. Wallace at the Nottingham Shoulder and Elbow Unit between 2000 and 2002.
I currently practice as a consultant in the arthroscopy unit at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham and the trauma unit at University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trusts. My practice focuses on running clinics to asses and treat knee, shoulder and elbow arthroscopies (key hole) as well as open surgery reconstruction of the shoulder, elbow and knee, including joint replacement, cartilage surgery, shoulder instability, rotator cuff repair and anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.
I am part of the Birmingham Knee and Shoulder Clinic, Birmingham, West Midlands, a private clinic established to provide treatment and care for conditions of the knee and shoulder in one to one clinics consultations.

I was born to Egyptian parents in 1963. Having spent my childhood and gone to medical school in Alexandria, I returned to England in 1989. My wife, Gaynor and I were married in 1994. We have two children, Philip and Helena. I played football and swam for my university. I am now confined to a friendly game of football and armchair expertise in all matters relating to football, in particular Liverpool football club. I have taken up golf and enjoy looking for my balls in the rough!
