Virtual consultations:
I studied medicine at Glasgow University and completed my surgical training in the West Midlands. In 2010, I was appointed as a consultant at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with specialisation in lower-limb and breast reconstruction. In 2015, I left the NHS to work in the private health sector.
I am trained in all areas of aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery performing the full repertoire of procedures. My specialist interest lies in aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery and body contouring after massive weight loss. I completed a six month fellowship at the world famous breast reconstruction unit in Gent, Belgium, with some of the world’s best microsurgeons.
I am one of the few surgeons in the UK treating large numbers of patients with fat tissue disorders such as lipoedema and Dercum’s disease. I am the lead author of the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery and British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery UK Guidelines for liposuction in lipoedema.
I believe strongly in multidisciplinary surgery for lipoedema patients, encompassing a lymphoedema nurse, dietician and clinical psychologist for support.
To my knowledge, I am one of the few surgeons in the UK performing DIEP flap breast reconstructions.
I am a member of the British Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (BAPRAS), The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS). I am also a Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) regional speciality advisor for Plastic Surgery. Recently, I completed a two-year tenure on the BAPRAS council (2015-17). During this period, I was a member of the British Standards Institute (BSI) responsible for improving European and national safety standards in non-surgical treatment. I am currently the UK representative for the International Confederation of Plastic Surgery Societies (ICOPLAST).
Author of over 30 papers and several prestigious book chapters, I regularly peer review articles for the major international plastic surgery journals. Plastic surgery is one of the most dynamic and challenging areas of medicine and seeing a female consultant is often advantageous for certain patients.
