After graduating in Medicine in 1989, I gained a vast clinical experience in different disciplines of Medicine and Surgery before entering the West Midlands training scheme for Clinical Oncology. I was appointed a full time Consultant in Clinical Oncology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (University Hospital) Birmingham in 2005. I do peripheral clinics at Good Hope Hospital and am part of a multidisciplinary breast cancer team at the QEH, Gynaecological cancer team at the GHH and City Hospital.
I have been involved in the Pan Birmingham Network Site Specific Group as deputy Chair followed by Chair for 5 years in total until 2013. I have been the Chair of WMH chemotherapy Group and Lead for breast cancer trials. I have also been Lead for the Pan Birmingham NSSG Gynaecological cancer trials and I am involved in various clinical trials of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormonal and biological therapies as Principal Investigator and an investigator.
I regularly teach medical students and I have been a regular speaker at the MSc Clinical Oncology course at the University of Birmingham. I have written chapters in cancer books and have been co-author of many publications, however, my main role is the management of patients with breast, all types of gynaecological and non-melanoma skin cancers.
